Energetic properties
Yellow fluorite enhances self-confidence and helps bring structure into one’s life. It offers insight into limiting behavioral and thought patterns, as well as repressed emotions. Fluorite improves concentration, promotes quick information processing, and helps connect new input with existing knowledge. It boosts self-esteem, uplifts the spirit, helps in setting boundaries, and encourages assertiveness.
Additionally, yellow fluorite absorbs and protects against negative energy, cleanses electromagnetic radiation, and is said to have beneficial effects on stiffness, joint problems, and rheumatism. It supports the health of bones, stomach, and teeth, and may relieve pain associated with shingles and other nerve conditions.
Suitable for children from around 4 years old.
Formation
Fluorite typically forms through hydrothermal processes, where warm, mineral-rich fluids flow through cracks and fissures in the Earth’s crust. These fluids contain dissolved minerals and may react chemically with surrounding rock. During this process, fluorite crystals can grow, with the presence of fluorine and other trace elements determining their specific color and characteristics.
Fluorite can also form through sedimentary processes, accumulating and consolidating from sediments rich in fluorine-bearing materials. It is often found in veins alongside barite, quartz, and calcite. The specific formation conditions result in various colors and varieties of the mineral.
Etymology
The name fluorite comes from the Latin word 'fluere', meaning 'to flow', referencing the mineral’s frequent occurrence in fluid-rich veins.
The term fluorescence is also derived from fluorite, as it is known for its vivid, glowing colors under ultraviolet (UV) light.
Care
Fluorite is a soft mineral and should not be exposed to water for extended periods. It is sensitive to scratches, wear, and corrosion, particularly when in contact with acidic or alkaline solutions. It’s best to clean fluorite with a dry cloth and avoid soaking it in water or chemicals.
Cleansing and recharging can also be done using sage, incense or moonlight.
Fluorite may fade when exposed to (bright) sunlight for too long.
Origin
Notable sources include China, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Peru and the United States.
Availability
Yellow fluorite can be considered relatively rare, depending on its source and crystal quality. While fluorite itself is quite common, high-quality yellow fluorite with rich color and good transparency is more difficult to find. Well-formed, visually appealing yellow fluorite crystals are therefore highly valued among gemstone collectors and enthusiasts.
