Energetic properties

Moonstone is connected to the energy of the moon and the Divine Feminine. It is the most important stone for supporting fertility and enhances intuition and self-awareness. The stone strengthens psychic abilities such as mediumship and clairvoyance. It also has a strong influence on sleep and dreaming, helping you remember dreams more clearly. Moonstone is a beneficial stone for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive, and it supports pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Physically, it detoxifies and balances the hormonal system. It positively affects digestion, reproductive organs, and reduces fluid retention.

Suitable for children from around the age of 6.

Formation

Moonstone is a beautiful gemstone known for its glow and mysterious appearance. It primarily forms as a result of the crystallization process of the feldspar mineral, specifically the orthoclase and albite varieties.

Moonstone usually forms in igneous rocks such as granite and pegmatite, where feldspar crystals grow slowly in a magmatic environment. As the magma cools, these feldspar crystals develop, some of which feature a layered structure. The white appearance of moonstone is due to the refraction and internal reflection of light within the mineral. The presence of iron or titanium traces can also contribute to a more beige hue.

This layered structure is created by the intergrowth of orthoclase and albite—two minerals with different refractive indices. These layers produce the optical phenomenon known as adularescence, resulting in the characteristic bluish sheen known as the moonlight effect.

Etymology

Moonstone gets its name from its unique shimmer and appearance, which resemble the soft glow of the moon. The shimmer shows a phenomenon called adularescence, in which light is scattered within the stone's internal structure, giving it a floating, moonlike effect—hence the name moonstone.

'White' refers to the color of this gemstone. It may also be referred to as 'beige moonstone'.

Care

White moonstone should not be exposed to too much water. It is a soft stone and sensitive to scratches, wear, and corrosion, especially when exposed to acidic or alkaline solutions. It’s best to gently clean it with a dry cloth and avoid soaking it in water or chemicals.

Cleansing and recharging can also be done with sage, incense or moonlight.

Origin

Well-known sources include Armenia, Australia, the Alps, Mexico, Madagascar, Myanmar, Norway, Poland, India, Sri Lanka and the United States.

Availability

White moonstone is generally considered a common gemstone. It can be found in various places around the world, making it widely available. However, large or particularly striking crystals may be more expensive.
