Energetic properties

Moonstone is connected to the energy of the moon and the Divine Feminine, making it one of the most important stones for supporting fertility. It enhances intuition and self-awareness. Pink moonstone stimulates creativity and helps you accept and love yourself. The stone radiates a loving and comforting energy that can soothe anxiety and anger. Physically, pink moonstone may help with digestive issues and complaints related to menopause and menstruation.

Suitable for children from around the age of 6.

Formation

Moonstone is a beautiful gemstone known for its shimmer and mystical appearance. It primarily forms through the crystallization of the feldspar mineral, specifically the varieties orthoclase and albite.

It usually occurs in igneous rocks such as granite and pegmatite, where feldspar crystals grow slowly in a magmatic environment. As the magma cools, these feldspar crystals form, and certain elements such as potassium and aluminum become trapped in the structure, contributing to the distinctive pink hue.

The layered structure of moonstone is created by the intergrowth of orthoclase and albite, two minerals with different refractive indices. These layers cause the optical phenomenon known as adularescence, resulting in the characteristic bluish shimmer often referred to as moonlight glow.

Etymology

Moonstone gets its name from its unique shimmer and appearance, which resemble the soft glow of the moon. The shimmer shows a phenomenon called adularescence, in which light is scattered within the stone's internal structure, giving it a floating, moonlike effect—hence the name moonstone.

'Pink' in this case refers to the color of this particular variety.

Care

Pink moonstone should not be exposed to too much water. It is a soft stone and sensitive to scratches, wear, and corrosion, especially when exposed to acidic or alkaline solutions. It’s best to gently clean it with a dry cloth and avoid soaking it in water or chemicals.

Cleansing and recharging can also be done with sage, incense or moonlight.

Origin

Well-known sources include India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Myanmar (Burma), Brazil, Australia and the United States.

Availability

Pink moonstone is generally considered a relatively rare crystal. Although it can be found in various parts of the world, high-quality specimens are less common, which contributes to its rarity and value.
