Energetic properties

Formation

Heliotrope forms through the deposition of minerals such as green chalcedony and red jasper. It is often found in volcanic rocks, where silica-rich fluids deposit minerals in cracks and cavities. These deposits undergo processes of pressure, temperature, and time, resulting in the distinctive green base with red spots characteristic of heliotrope.

Etymology

The name comes from the Greek helios meaning 'sun' and tropein meaning 'to turn'. It likely refers to the ancient belief that when polished and held to the light, the stone's sparkle resembled the glow of the setting sun.

Another name for heliotrope is bloodstone, due to the red spots and speckles that resemble drops of blood.

Care

Heliotrope is relatively hard and durable and doesn’t require special care. It can be cleansed by rinsing it under running water and gently patting it dry with a soft cloth. It can also be cleansed and recharged using sage, incense or moonlight.
