Energetic properties

Hawk’s Eye has a calming, grounding, and insightful energy. It helps you take a step back and look at the bigger picture. It reduces excessive fear, emotions, aggression, and mood swings—but also slows down the energy flow. It supports breaking limiting behavioral and thought patterns and helps reduce pessimism and a victim mentality. It provides insight into your life path and supports decision-making. Physically, Hawk’s Eye positively affects blood vessels, intestines, and legs.

Due to its inhibiting effect on the body's energy flow, it is advised not to wear Hawk’s Eye continuously for more than a week.

Suitable for children from around 2 years old.

Formation

Hawk’s Eye is a variety of Tiger’s Eye and forms through the mineral growth and crystallization process under specific conditions. In this case, formation involves crocidolite; a fibrous variety of amphibole, and quartz.

During formation, crocidolite fibers become embedded in the forming quartz. These fibers are preserved within the growing quartz, creating a parallel fibrous structure. Over time, and under the right pressure and temperature conditions, the crocidolite is replaced by quartz in a process called pseudomorphism; where the external shape and structure are retained, but the original material is replaced.

This replacement preserves the fibrous structure and creates the optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy, or the ‘cat’s eye effect.’ When light hits the stone, it is reflected by the fiber-like structure, resulting in a blue shimmer that appears to move across the surface.

Etymology

The name Hawk’s Eye comes from the stone’s visual resemblance to the eye of a hawk or falcon. An alternative name sometimes used is Falcon’s Eye.

Since Hawk’s Eye is a variety of Tiger’s Eye, the term Blue Tiger’s Eye is also occasionally used.

Care

Hawk's Eye is relatively hard and durable and doesn’t require special care. It can be cleaned under running water and gently patted dry with a soft cloth. It may also be cleansed and recharged using sage, incense or moonlight.

Origin

Found in various parts of the world, including South Africa, Australia, India, Brazil, Canada, the United States and Namibia.

Availability

Relatively common and found all over the world, so it is not generally considered rare. However, quality and size can vary, and some rare forms; such as those with internal inclusions or exceptionally large specimens, can be more valuable.
