Energetic properties

Clear quartz is a crystal of great healing power and is especially suited for energy work and healing practices. When placed in a home, it functions to absorb, regulate, store, and release energy. It protects the aura from radiation, cleanses the chakras, and brings them into balance. Mentally, clear quartz enhances concentration and clarity of thought. It purifies, revitalizes, soothes pain, reduces fever, stimulates the immune system, and brings the body into balance.

Clear quartz is suitable for children.

Formation

Clear quartz is a variety of quartz and forms in the same way as quartz crystals in general. Quartz is a form of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth's crust. The crystal is a bond between silicon and oxygen and typically forms in underground passageways under intense heat—such as from slowly cooling magma or hot underground water.

Clear quartz comes in various qualities; it is usually very clear and transparent, but the presence of mineral deposits can make it appear whiter and less transparent. Tiny air bubbles within the crystals contribute to a whiter or cloudier appearance. When clear quartz turns completely white, it is known as milky quartz or snow quartz. Occasionally, quartz grows with inclusions of other minerals, leading to the formation of other gemstones, such as amethyst or golden healer.

Etymology

The name 'clear quartz' has its origins in the Latin crystallus and the Greek krystallos, both meaning 'crystal' and 'ice.' The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that clear quartz was eternally frozen water. Originally, the gemstone was simply referred to as 'crystal', but in the 19th century, the word 'clear' (or 'rock' in other translations) was added to distinguish it from other types of crystal.

Care

Clear Quartz is relatively hard and durable and doesn’t require special care. It can be cleaned under running water and gently patted dry with a soft cloth. It may also be cleansed and recharged using sage, incense, moonlight, or an orgonite charging disk.

Origin

Worldwide.

Availability

Relatively common and found all over the world, so it is not generally considered rare. However, quality and size can vary, and some rare forms; such as those with internal inclusions or exceptionally large specimens, can be more valuable.
