Energetic properties

Citrine quartz is a sunny and warm stone. It enhances self-confidence, self-respect, individuality, and extraversion, while also encouraging self-fulfillment. The stone brings energy, joy, and courage, helping to overcome (winter) depression, fears, phobias, and self-destructive behavior.

It attracts happiness, prosperity, success, wealth, and abundance, and inspires sharing these blessings with others. Citrine quartz also boosts creativity and self-expression. It protects the aura and cleanses the chakras. Physically, the stone provides energy and stimulates digestion. It is said to have a positive effect on the stomach, spleen, pancreas, and intestines.

Citrine quartz is suitable for children.

Formation

Citrine quartz is formed by heating amethyst. Therefore, it should not be confused with natural citrine.

Etymology

The name 'citrine' is derived from the French word 'citron', meaning 'lemon', referencing the stone’s yellow color. The term quartz is added to clarify that this is heat-treated amethyst, not natural citrine.

Care

Citrine Quartz is relatively hard and durable and doesn’t require special care. It can be cleaned under running water and gently patted dry with a soft cloth. It may also be cleansed and recharged using sage, incense or moonlight.

Citrine quartz may fade in color when exposed to (bright) sunlight for prolonged periods.

Origin

Amethyst (used to create citrine quartz) is found in Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, China, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uruguay, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Availability

Citrine quartz is generally easy to find. Natural citrine, however, is much rarer. For this reason, heat-treated amethyst is often sold as citrine. Therefore, it’s important to verify the authenticity of the crystal and purchase from a reliable source.

Citrine quartz is usually darker in color with more visible white quartz sections, whereas natural citrine tends to be lighter, nearly colorless, and only reveals its yellow hue when exposed to (sun)light.
