Aventurine also helps with setting and achieving goals and attracts prosperity and good luck—making it a true stone of fortune. Physically, red aventurine is believed to benefit the eyes, nervous system, muscles, and connective tissue, and may help reduce issues such as stuttering and blushing.
Red aventurine is suitable for children.
Formation
Aventurine is a variety of quartz and forms in the same basic way as other quartz crystals. Quartz is a form of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust. Aventurine contains inclusions that create its sparkling effect, known as aventurescence. The most well-known variety is green aventurine, which gets its color from chrome-bearing fuchsite inclusions. When the inclusions consist of hematite or goethite instead, the stone takes on a yellow, orange, or reddish-brown color; such as in red aventurine.
Etymology
The name aventurine comes from the Italian word a ventura, meaning 'by chance' or 'accident'. It is said the gemstone was discovered by accident in the 18th century. Another tale speaks of a worker who accidentally dropped copper filings into molten glass, creating a glittering material known as avventurino. The gemstone was later named aventurine due to its strong resemblance to this glass.
Care
Red aventurine can be cleansed by rinsing it under running water and gently patting it dry with a soft cloth. Cleansing and recharging can also be done using sage, incense or moonlight.
Origin
Can be found in various parts of the world, including India, Russia, Spain, Brazil and Zimbabwe.
Availability
Red aventurine is not particularly rare. It is relatively easy to obtain and is mined in several locations worldwide. However, the price can vary depending on the quality and size of the stones.
